Sometimes Santa and the elves have a little argument about Christmas. The elves try to convince him that Christmas comes but once a year. For them, Christmas is the busiest time of all, and they are rushed off their feet getting everything ready. There are so many presents to make and letters to read. The candy machine needs regular sugaring, the reindeer’s antlers polishing.
But Santa says Christmas is such a marvellous season that it’s worth remembering all year round. And once the elves have cooled down a bit, they’re ready to agree with him. Thus Santa Claus’ Office is caught up in the Christmas atmosphere every single day of the year.
Christmas is an age-old feast celebrated in countless different ways. The preparations, decorations, food and customs vary according to whether you are in Scandinavia, Central Europe, the British Isles, the Far East or somewhere else in the world.
Santa himself is also surrounded by all sorts of beliefs. People have been arguing heatedly from time immemorial about such important things as his age, where he lives, what size boots he takes and his favourite kind of chocolate. The man himself even recalls once hearing someone doubt whether his beard trimmers really were lost! But the best-known person in the world quite clearly doesn’t care a hoot about the veil of mystery that surrounds him - on the contrary!
Santa has, however, always been interested to hear how Christmas is celebrated in other countries, and respects these different customs. But if you ask him what’s best of all about Christmas, he never hesitates to reply - the children. Looking after the world’s children and making sure they’re not naughty is, in the opinion of this Good Will Ambassador, one of the most important things in the world.
